PROGRAMS SPANISH

Our Spanish courses normally comprise 20 hours per week but our schudule are flexible, starting at 8:00 am until 16:00 pm, we can always tailor the times, structure, and location of classes to best suit the learning styles and specific needs of each individual student.

Intensive Spanish Program

Basic

For those who have had little to no background or exposure to the Spanish Language, we offer a dynamic learning method which is accessible to all ages. Skills developed are basic pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary necessary for everyday living. A Basic course covers 20 hours of instruction time, depending on the student's progress.

Intermediate

At this level, students are able to communicate and continue to develop their vocabulary. The Intermediate course covers 20 to 40 hours of instruction time, depending on the student's progress.

Advanced

For students already quite familiar with the Spanish language who would like to deepen their grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Writing, expression, literary and cultural knowledge are also featured through a variety of media. Students will benefit from the variety of materials and sources used in the Advanced level. At this level, students and teachers have the flexibility to determine the issues of interest to be studied, as well as the materials, methods, and time-frame. The advanced course covers 20 to 40 hours of instruction time, depending on the student's progress.

SURVIVAL SPANISH PROGRAM

A crash course for travelers. Ideal for those who are beginning South American travels and would like a better grasp of Spanish. The program covers the basics of Spanish, emphasising simple conversational and listening skills which travelers would encounter. The program would comprise 4 hours a day of intensive courses five days a week and will prepare you for all your wanderings in Latin America

MEDICAL SPANISH  

The primary purpose of this program is to introduce participants to issues surrounding health and health care in developing countries by combining volunteer hospital work with a course of practical, applicable medical Spanish. During your time here, you will learn first-hand about the economic, political, and social factors that influence health in Ecuador.

On the first day you will take a placement exam and you will work with us to design a program exclusively for you. You can focus on grammar, conversation or medical Spanish. We have the most complete medical Spanish training programs in Ecuador.

Students participate in four hours of clinical rotations in a small popular medical center located close to Montanita. Your level of education and experience determines your involvement in the program. If you are an undergrad or pre-Med with no prior clinical experience, you may not get much hands-on experience. You will serve a more observational role until the doctor can develop trust in your abilities. If you are a clinical student (whether medical, nursing or other) with good communication skills, you can expect to see patients yourself under the supervision of your overseeing doctor. And if you are a practicing clinical doctor then you can expect to .The experience is different for each and every participant depending on their individual skills set.

TRAVELING CLASSROOM

Why not explore Ecuador while exploring the Spanish language. We work in conjunction with the top schools in the top 4 destinations of Ecuador. Enrich yourself with the unique cultural highlights, adventure activities, and natural wonders of Montanita, Quito, Cuenca, and Banos, spending a week in each place.

The traveling classroom operates on a continuous rotating basis. You have the option of either starting in Montanita and go Montanita-Cuenca-Banos-Quito or start in Quito and go Quito-Banos-Montanita-Cuenca.

Classes will be similar in each location, 5 days a week, 4 hours of instruction each day, totaling 20 hours per week.

Highlights

Quito: Ecuador´s capital, a great jumping off point as many international flights connect there. Visit Quito´s old town where sits Ecuador's government buildings and peer out from the spires of her spectacular cathedral. Quito has a wide array of interesting museums, a great number of handicraft markets--and a visit to the nearby "Mitad del Mundo" where the earth´s equator was first calculated and for which Ecuador was so named rounds out any experience.

Banos: Bathe in the natural and therapeutic hot springs of this mountain top town. Nested up in the peaks of the Andes, Banos offers exciting adventure activities for Adrenaline junkies and a happening nightlife to boot. Raft through charging rivers, gaze at the wonders of Ecuador's volcanic peaks, mountain bike, or take jungle tours all while immersing yourself in Spanish.

Cuenca: Listed as a unesco world heritage site, Cuenca offers a snapshot of Ecuador's Colonial past--cobblestone streets and an impressive array of whitewashed and red tiled cathedrals and buildings highlight this stunning town. Originally built by the Incas, Cuenca once rivaled Cuzco, their capital, in its splendor. Stroll through town and sip coffee in one of the breezy cafes and take in the impressive museums. Cuenca will be sure to charm.

PREPARATION FOR THE DELE EXAM

The "Instituto Cervantes" only recognizes the DELE (Diploma for Spanish as a Foreign Language) as a certificate for foreign students that wish to study in Spanish universities and work in Spanish speaking countries. Normally, this course comprises 4 weeks of intensive study--2 weeks of normal study and 2 weeks of preparation for the exam itself. Teachers at our spanish school are certified to prepare students to take and pass the DELE exam.

VOLUNTEER & ECOLOGIAL PROGRAM

Due to the socioeconomic needs from which much of the Ecuadorian population suffers (as in other Latin American countries), many communities have found themselves in need of seeking government and private help in order to maintain decent living conditions.

For this reason, MAR AZUL SPANISH SCHOOL, through the volunteer work of young people as well as adults around the world, collaborates with different local organizations to carry out projects that promote growth in developing sectors.

We can offer short or long term positions for all international volunteers.The communities surrounding Montanita offer a wide range of possibilities for volunteer work:

SURF AND SPANISH :

All agree that Montanita has the best waves in Ecuador with really good overall conditions for surfing and body surfing. The wave known as "La Punta" at Montanita is a right point break located one kilometer north from the center of Montanita.

For those wishing to enter the sporting world of surfing, Montanita is an ideal place to take lessons. We offer week long courses: 5 days of lessons, two hours long. This program allows you to combine your Spanish course with surfing lessons while having a lot of fun. Our instructors are some of the top surfers in Ecuador, all having represented Ecuador in competitions both nationally and internationally.

One time introductory class including board rental and video of you surfing: $20.

YOGA AND SPANISH

Why not try yoga on a magical beach? Yoga has been found to aid the body immensely, improving muscle strength, circulation, and easing stress and tension while improving balance--a fantastic complement to surfing! Our yoga instructor, Whitney has been a practitioner of Yoga for over 15 years and teaches Vinyasa flow, an energetic form of yoga that will raise your pulse and limber you up. And the setting couldn't´t be better! Her open air studio has fresh ocean breezes and sea views. Combine these classes with your intensive courses and you will find an inner light to brighten your growing knowledge of Spanish. Each class is about 1hour and 15minutes long and can be arranged around your schedule.

SALSA AND SPANISH

Want to loosen your hips to Latin beats? Learn Spanish and dance to the tunes that will energize you on the dance floor. Our dance instructor, Jose, is a top instructor of Salsa, Meringue, Cumbia, and much more. You will practice for about an hour and a half a day and can be arranged to meet your schedule.

DIVING AND SPANISH

Ecuador has some truly amazing diving opportunities. World class spots include the famous Galapagos islands and around Montanita itself diving spots are in abundance with the turquoise waters of Isla de la Plata close by. We work in conjunction with the local dive center to provide quality and safe instruction from certified dive masters. The licensed PADI course will have you exploring the majestic blue waters of Ecuador in four short days.
